Temple Grandin is a speaker, author, and professor of animal science at Colorado State University. She was born on August 29, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts. She was diagnosed with autism at the age of two and placed early at a nursery school. Her doctor suggested speech therapy but her speech development delayed and she did not speak until the age of four. She says middle school and high school were unpleasant because she was made fun of by other students who called her "tape recorder". She earned a bachelors degree in psychology from Franklin Pierce College, a master's in animal science from Arizona State University, and a doctoral degree in animal science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
In the movie Temple Grandin has a science teacher who says she sees things that no one else can see. She didn't like to hug people so she used a squeeze machine which she made to relieve her anxiety. Her machine broke and she can hug people now. Temple Grandin also designed facilities for cattle. She wrote articles in magazines and spoke about autism. Today she is a professor and her facilities are used to slaughter animals in a more humane way. She is neither married or has children.
This movie can teach many people that other people who have bigger problems than us can do great things. Temple Grandin is one of those people because her autism could've stopped her from doing what she did but she overcame that. Many of us don't realize that no matter what problems we may have we cant give up so easily. There's other people that go through worse situations than most of us and they're moving along perfectly fine.
